On Saturday, July 8, 2023, the City learned of significant land movement on Peartree Lane (Zone RHE-E013). Initially, 12 homes were red-tagged and evacuated, displacing 16 residents. As of July 21, 2023, 17 homes have been affected: 12 have been red-tagged and required evacuation, 5 have been yellow-tagged. A further 15 homes are on "watch," meaning they were not required to evacuate but encouraged. This remains an active situation and we are continuing to provide General Community Updates on RHE.city/PeartreeLane.
What caused the land movement?
Last updated: 8/08/2023
The City does not currently know the cause of the land movement. This occurred on private property, to homes belonging to the Rolling Hills Park Villa Community Association ("HOA"). As such, the HOA has hired a geotechnical firm – GMU Geotechnical – to conduct an investigation of the cause. They officially started work at Peartree Lane on Wednesday, July 20, 2023.
When will the geological investigation be complete?

The Rolling Hills Park Villa Community Association ("HOA") has hired a geotechnical firm – GMU Geotechnical – to conduct an investigation of the cause. They officially started work at Peartree Lane on Wednesday, July 20, 2023. As the City understands, that work will be ongoing and a specific timeline for completion is unknown but will likely take months. Operational details of the work are private matters between the HOA and Peartree Lane homeowners, and questions regarding the assessment should be directed to the HOA’s management company, Scott Management Company. The L.A. County Fire Department and utility providers have also been conducting geotechnical assessments for their own purposes. It is important to note that these evaluations are entirely separate from the homeowners association (HOA) investigation of the underlying cause of the land movement.
