2026 Project Status

7-30-2026 Project Update

Construction continues to progress on the Palos Verdes Drive North & Dapplegray School Intersection Improvement Project. Crews are currently installing new curb and gutter and making improvements to the multi-use path. As work advances, pedestrians and cyclists may encounter temporary detours while portions of the multi-use path are under construction. These detours will shift as construction progresses through different phases of the project.

7-8-2026 Project Update:

Notice of Bridle Trail Detour – Palos Verdes Drive North & Dapplegray School Intersection Improvement Project

As part of the Palos Verdes Drive North & Dapplegray School Intersection Improvement Project, tree removal activities will begin this week and continue into next week along both sides of Palos Verdes Drive North.

To ensure public safety during this work, a temporary detour of the bridle trail will be in effect from Thursday, July 9, through Friday, July 17. Riders and trail users are asked to follow the attached detour map and use Strawberry Trail to connect to Palomino Ranch Trail while work is underway.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we complete these improvements. Every effort will be made to minimize disruptions, and the bridle trail will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so.

6-24-2026 Project Update:

Work continues on the Palos Verdes Drive North and Dapplegray School Intersection Improvement Project. Traffic control measures and message boards are in place to help keep the community informed of ongoing and upcoming construction activities. Crews have begun the project's first phase of construction, with initial work focused on site preparation and other early activities that will pave the way for future roadway and intersection improvements.

Residents and motorists are encouraged to use caution when traveling through the project area and to follow all posted traffic control signs and directions.

6-4-2026 Project Update:

Construction begins Monday, June 8, 2026 on the Palos Verdes Drive North and Dapplegray School (London Lane) Intersection Improvement Project. Street work planned for weekdays from 9 AM–3 PM. 5-22-2026 Project Update:

The City Council awarded the construction contract for the Palos Verdes Drive North and Dapplegray School Entrance Improvement Project on May 12, 2026. Construction is scheduled to begin on June 8, 2026. Contractor mobilization activities may occur slightly earlier, provided they do not impact vehicle traffic or pedestrian access.

This project will enhance the intersection at Palos Verdes Drive North and the Dapplegray School entrance. Improvements will include grading and drainage work, installation of new concrete curbs and gutters, asphalt pavement upgrades, retaining walls, traffic signal enhancements, updated signing and striping, fencing, landscaping and irrigation, as well as other related infrastructure improvements. Project Details

To minimize disruption to school operations, construction has been coordinated around the elementary school’s summer breaks and will occur in two phases:

Phase 1: June 8, 2026 – August 25, 2026
Phase 2: June 14, 2027 – August 13, 2027

The contractor will work under strict schedules to reduce impacts on school activities, surrounding neighborhoods, and traffic circulation. However, certain project activities that do not affect traffic or school access may continue outside of the summer break periods, as needed to support overall project completion.

Past meetings & Discussion

The City of Rolling Hills Estates has prepared plans for roadway improvements located at Palos Verdes Drive North and the Dapplegray School intersection (London Lane). This project is being funded by a $2.88M grant awarded to the City in 2020 by a Measure M subregional grant. The project was first presented to the City Council at its September 12, 2023 meeting. Based on comments received at the meeting, staff addressed those concerns and prepared an updated presentation, which was presented to the City Council at its meeting on April 23, 2024, and on June 25, 2024 a workshop was held to further discuss the proposed project.

At its meeting of August 13, the City of Rolling Hills Estates City Council adopted Resolution No. 2584 (adopting the IS/MND and MMRP and approving the project).
